Introduction
GCr15 steel is a kind of high carbon chromium bearing steel with low alloy content, have good performance and most widely used in various industires. it has high and uniform hardness, good wear resistance and high contact fatigue performance after quenching and tempering.
High-carbon chromium bearing steel is widely used worldwide. The most commonly used types are GCr15 and GCr15SiMn, which account for about 80% of the total bearing steel in my country. The properties of the two steels are basically the same. However, because the hardenability of GCr15SiMn is better than that of GCr15, GCr15SiMn steel should be used for larger-sized bearing parts. High-carbon chromium bearing steel is widely used in the manufacture of rolling bearing rings and rolling parts.
GCr15 bearing steel is widely used in the manufacture of spindle bearings, railway bearings, engine bearings, machine tool bearings, mining machinery bearings, general machinery bearings, etc.

Modern furnaces with precisely controlled atmospheres and temperatures are used for heat treating to assure uniform hardness and proper microstructure for each steel ball.
High Hardness
Ball hardness is controlled within the 60-63 HRC range as measured on parallel flat surfaces.
Wide Applications
Bearing balls are used in automotive applications, for semi-precision bearings, and in commercial applications.
Weldability
Because this material has 1% carbon, it does not weld well. It can be resistance welded with difficulty. It can be soft soldered with a high tin solder using an acid flux. It can be silver soldered or brazed; but the heat will cause distortion of the ball and a loss of hardness. For light load applications, the ball can be attached with an adhesive such as epoxy. When adhesive bounding is used, an area on the ball should be roughed up by etching or abrasive blasting. The area should be thoroughly cleaned.
