The full name of bearing steel is rolling bearing steel. It has high compressive strength and anti-fatigue performance, high hardness, high wear resistance and certain toughness, good hardenability, and extremely strict control of sulfur and phosphorus. It is a high-grade high-quality steel.

On the basis of GCr15 steel, the content of Si and Mn is appropriately increased to improve its hardenability and elastic limit, and its wear resistance is also better than that of GCr15. The applicable size range for manufacturing rolling elements is larger than that of GCr15. 

High-carbon chromium bearing steel is widely used in the world, the most commonly used types are GCr15 and GCr15SiMn, the performance of the two kinds of steel is basically the same, but the quenching permeability of GCr15SiMn is better than GCr15, so for larger size bearing parts, should adopt GCr15SiMn steel, high-carbon chromium bearing steel is widely used in the manufacture of rolling bearing rings and rolling parts.
 
GCr15 bearing steel is widely used to manufacture spindle bearings, railway bearings,engine bearings, machine tools bearings, mining machinery bearings, general machinery bearings etc.
 
GCr15SiMn bearing steel is mainly used to manufacture thick wall bearings, such as large and extra large size bearings, used in heavy machinery and rolling mill machinery.

Chrome steel and other metal balls are processed by the following process:

• Forging and cold heading. The rough ball shape is made of rod.
• Deflashing. Rough machining or soft grinding can eliminate forging burrs.      
• Heat treatment. The balls are heat treated in a controlled process according to technical specifications.
• Finishing. The stainless steel ball skips this step. Other steel balls can be hardened by heat treatment, quenching or other tempering methods.
• Hard Grinding. Sand the steel ball to remove scratches and blemishes.
• Lapping. The controlled mechanical grinding/polishing process can bring the balls into the desired design, slope size and spherical accuracy of 1/1,000,000 inch.
• Inspection & Packaging. Before checking and packing the steel balls, use lubricant or rust inhibitor at last.
